Freedom of choice of what you wear to school may NOT be the policy any longer at Plymouth South beginning next year under a pilot program being considered by the school administration.
“School uniforms could become a possibility as early as next year” Mrs. Fry said, as the school considers the idea of uniforms for Plymouth South students.
School Uniforms or a strict dress code? This is always a hot topic for debate in public schools. There seems to be as many positive aspects as there are negative when it comes to uniforms. Mrs. Fry, Principle at Plymouth South High School, thinks the uniforms would be a great idea. “Uniforms create a more serious environment in the classroom” said Mrs. Fry.
In an environment where everyone is classified by what they have, uniforms would bring equality to the hallways of the school. Students wouldn’t be able to judge one another based on appearances. If students had uniforms then they wouldn’t have to worry about spending most of their money on clothes in order to fit in. Mrs. Fry said “Uniforms leave more money for students to buy school supplies. Instead of buying the hot new pair of jeans, students are able to go out and afford a calculator which is a necessity”.
There is also the point that school uniforms discourage self expression. By forcing students to wear a certain style of clothing it can also send the message that everyone has to look the same. Providing school uniforms could be like taking away an art class. For some students, the way they dress is how they express themselves. Taking that away can have a bad impact on each student and the school as a whole.
Mrs. Fry said “The dress code will not be put in place to completely restrict students.” She is more than happy to work with students. Maybe it can be considered more appropriate jeans or khakis, a shirt with no writing, and a pair of shoes of the students choice.
When we asked Mrs. Fry about those students who may feel uncomfortable in jeans, khakis, a golf shirt, or school orientated T-shirt, she replied with “the staff of the school will work directly with that student and their family; so that the student will feel a lot more comfortable wearing these clothes”.
During high school students are going through a trial and error age. When students get to choose what they wear it teaches them what clothes are appropriate and inappropriate for a working environment. As a compromise for everyone a dress code that is taken seriously could be a great option. Depending on the strictness of the dress code, it can show individuality as well as tone down what the students wear. Uniforms would better the students and faculty as long as there is some sort of an agreement.
There is always a way to look fashionable and appropriate. One question to ask yourself before you leave for school is, “Would I want my son wearing his jeans this low?”, or “Would I want my daughter revealing this much skin?” We all have to remember that school is a place for education, not a fashion show. A stricter dress code would put limitations on clothing without forcing students to match each other.
Don’t panic yet students, uniforms are currently undecided. Mrs. Fry said “Nothing is 100% yet. If it is improved; the school will ‘pilot’ uniforms. Similar to advisory when it was piloted in 2009.”

yayyyy uniformssssss!!!
[Reply]
wooohoo i cant wait to wear minee!
[Reply]
If it goes through, I will be accidentaly spilling a lot of things on my uniform.
How can we afford it anyways? Teachers always complain about garbage books, yet our main focus is how we dress? It’s unbelieveable that such a stupid idea was even brought up.
[Reply]
I hate this! We are a public school, not private.
[Reply]
I dont think theyre that bad, just saying. People are making a big deal about nothing, uniforms would actually make everything easier and better. I mean, I understand people what the freedom to express yourself, but do that by your personality.. Clothes shouldnt matter.
[Reply]
im not really all for uniforms, and no other student ive talked to so far is either, but if its a possibility, than theres nothing we can really do about it. One of my teachers did mention that she would actually perfer teacher uniforms though. Also if this plan does actually happen, than i suggest that for the summer months when its hotter out that you supply a T-shirt and khaki shorts maybe, so students wont be sweating all day in pants and a polo.
[Reply]
thats lame were a public schools and were taught to be individuals making us wear the same thing sooo orignal
[Reply]
Everyone I know wants uniforms. It will make everything better.
[Reply]
I dont like this idea at all. People wont be able to show what kinds of things they find interesting anymore. No one ive talked to likes this idea and it wont cause the drama to stop at all. And buying uniforms would be an issue for many people with the money.
[Reply]
As a parent, I do not agree with this idea. I don’t have a problem with the school having a dress code to a certain point (no tank tops, or jeans that are falling off, no foul language on clothing, or bare midriff), I do not believe the school should be able to chose what the kids wear. Why try to make the kids all the same when in high shcool they are all learning who they are and trying to find their individuality? We always tell our kids “be yourself”, that will be hard to teach if they are all just a clone of everyone around them. Let them have the freedom to continue to dress according to their personalities… with some guidlines.
[Reply]
absolutly not!!!
[Reply]
NO! This is a public school. i just left a private school that had a dress code and mostly all of the students including me wernt happy. Lets not change anything that dosent need to be changed. Its just an open area to cause MORE problems. And i agree with dylan, so far no students really know about it so im guessing we dont have a say in this.
[Reply]
Bad idea, just enforce the standards that are already in place. Forcing students to wear a uniform does nothing to teach them what is appropriate. Most professions have some kind of dress code but few have actual uniforms. I’m sure the teachers and faculty have professional dress standards, but I could just imagine what the teachers union would do if teachers were required to wear a uniform.
The way to teach what is appropriate is by instruction and by example, not by forcing a one size fits all, because of the few who have not yet learned what is appropriate.
[Reply]
No the uniforms would make everyone lose their sense of individuality, i mean i know people still express themselves through their personality, but sometimes their clothes help them express who they are better. I wouldnt mind the simple dress code, but everyone i have talked to so far has said that this is ridiculous. I also think if uniforms were put in place a lot of kids would just not wear them and wear what they WANT to wear instead. Overall i really don’t see the major benefit in the uniforms.
[Reply]
I personally am against it.
I just don’t feel that it’s necessary…
Coming in as a freshman, I assumed I’d see a lot worse than I have.
It’s almost like, why fix something that isn’t broken?
And then a lot of kids inevitably won’t follow it.
So what, you’re going to give out detentions over dress code?
When what people are wearing aren’t inappropriate to begin with…
I doubt it will work out.
[Reply]
NO.
High school is a place for expression, not conformity. If people can’t express themselves with clothing choice, then they will do it with something else, like vandalism of school property. Just for thoughts.
[Reply]
I feel that the school uniforms isn’t a good idea because a lot of families might not be able to afford a school uniform, nevermind regular clothes. There are ways to enforce equality without having everyone wear the same clothes. Students who do not respect the current dress code can be punished. You’re defeating the minds of the young students, and it will make them think that everyone should look like one another. We go to public school for a reason. We do not want a dress code and we don’t want to pay for the uniform or the school. Why should we be forced to do this? People still will be judged by their appearence, as some are bigger than others, some may have different makeup or hair. There’s always something to pick on other people for, and enforcing a dress code is not going to stop anything except judging people by what they wear. I feel this is ridiculous just like the school system. No one really cares about what’s important, and that is the students and their education. Wearing uniforms is not a part of education. Like you said, buying clothes isn’t a neccessity like buying a calculator, but we’re still buying the uniform. As much as education is important and needs to be taken seriously, you need to let the student’s have fun too. The dress code will take away any happiness, and without happiness, it’s hard for student’s to learn when they are miserable in a uniform thats unneccessary.
[Reply]
I am torn, I understand why, but this is something that you can’t start in High School. If it was inforced since grade school then it would be a different story. Instead of a uniform at this point they should inforce the policy as it stands now. I see way too much boys pants hitting below the hip and too many girls with plunging necklines.
[Reply]
I don’t believe that uniforms will do anything but cost extra money for parents, and stifle a student’s self-expression. Personally, I find that bullying is more focused on personality, beliefs, interests, etc, rather than clothes, so it wouldn’t truly be a solution. I agree that the dress code should be proper, like a boy’s pants not being around their ankles, but I don’t think we need to go so far as uniforms. Maybe discipline those that don’t follow the dress code we have, rather than punishing us all.
[Reply]
i really think its a good idea personally…
[Reply]
This is ridiculously dumb. The school is going to find that uniforms are going to be nothing but a complaint and a nuisance from 95% of the students at PSHS. Most of them are already troublemakers, this will just give them a new thing to revolt against. i don’t see a problem at all with a dress code, like no foul language, or inappropriate pictures on clothing, etc. Clearly they should pay attention to what the students think, they’re for us anyways right? forcing teenagers to wear ugly clothes is not going to make the school a very pleasant place. If they’re trying to make us happier and make school better for us, this is not what is going to do it.
[Reply]
what about the tech students? who have to change before and after they work? exspecially non-traditional students, its just going to cut time and everything kno one wants to clean up early? Uniforms should start in elemantary. not high school.
[Reply]
I do not agree.
Having a uniform will not make students focus more on spending money on school supplies, students will not wear the uniform outside of school so they will still focus on buying clothes that are fashionable to still fit in outside of school. This will not help with money; it will make more concerns, more for parents.
Having a uniform also deletes the individuality that is being taught in the school now. Students will not be able to express who they are, and most express themselves through their clothes. If the school would like to help students be themselves, they should not give a uniform where everyone will look to be as one, but maybe just enforce the dress code. This way all students can still dress as they want with the exception of maybe covering up more and being prohibited from wearing certain clothing.
If you are staff in the school think of how you would feel as a student in this situation and ask yourself some questions. Would you want to have a uniform? Look the same as everyone else that you work with? Or would you like to just have enforced dressing rules, being able to still dress the way you want but with exceptions?
Before a decision is made final I think some of these questions should be answered by you truthfully and decide how you would feel in the situation. And if this decision goes through maybe staff should also have to have the uniform so that they can feel the same as students will.
[Reply]
heres my opinion on school uniform. i absolutely dislike this idea. a lot of the kids that went to schools with uniforms told me that they hated wearing them. it’s not going to stop kids from bullying others. people are who they are, they think that it’s ok to bully someone else when it’s really not. i would know, i’ve been bullied this year. i know for a fact that if this dress code happens, probably about half of the school population at south will either be skipping school more or switching to different schools, like north for example. the rules that we have about how to dress appropriately for school are fine the way they are. a uniform isn’t going to stop anything & life will be boring if we all look the same and wear the same outfit everyday to school next year.
[Reply]
I spent the last four years with a dress code and it didn’t help anyone. At all. I was so happy to come to South, wear I can have the freedom to dress how I want (one of the only things I like about the school) and now it’s being taken away? The way people dress doesn’t “create a more serious environment in the classroom” . Jerks are still going to be jerks and mean kids are still going to be mean. A sweater isn’t going to change that. I understand some guys have their underwear hanging out, and some girls look a little inappropriate, but there’s a limit to how much restricting should be done. And I think in the handbook there are rules against these things, but nobody enforces them. How about you enforce the rules you already have before overreacting?
[Reply]
school uniforms? nooo… if you dont wanna get picked on for what you wear… just dont wear anything out of the ordinary. wear something like blue jeans and a white tee-shirt. if somebody picks on you for that… than they just want to pick on you. they’re going to pick on you for your hair, voice, anything. a uniform will not help. it will just cause all the extreme people to light stuff on fire, and just do bad things on purpose to show that making school uniforms is a bad idea. there’s no point. and btw… the pictures of school uniforms at the top of the page look mad uncomfortable… i would probably get distracted by that. i would not wear that every day of school.
[Reply]
YES UNIFORMS
because kids are bullied who cant afford nice clothes
[Reply]
NO. This is absolutely unacceptable. I already do enough in school – I’m in all honors classes, for Pete’s sake. And the school expects me to do it in a UNIFORM? I think not. Leave the uniforms for private schools. What about the people that can’t AFFORD to wash clothing more often? Not only would you be exhausting our town taxes to pay for such uniforms, but you’d be taking even more money from us, on the side. This should ABSOLUTELY not come to be. For all who read this comment, VOTE NO ON UNIFORMS.
[Reply]
no, why is the school doing this?
[Reply]
I think that this is a good idea.
Kids won’t be judged on appearances, and it will give student’s personalitys a chance to shine through. I think that If students do not have to spend forever on their appearance, then they would spend more time on homework, and possibly grades would rise up. It spreads equality and eliminates a lot of prejudices and injustices. There will be no distractions, no logos, no influences or anything negative. I think that uniforms create a much more positve enviorment for learning and for preparing for college and the future ahead. I personally am rooting the idea for uniforms. I am all for it.
[Reply]
I Do Not Like This Idea AT ALL. Most Parents Do Not Have Money To Do This, And This Is Supposed To Be A Public School. Not Some Morphed Private/ Public School… Also It Should Be An Option To The Kids If They Want To Or Not. Not A Permanent Thing With A Vote. :/
[Reply]
My Self Esteem Will Also Drop Terribly Because I Wouldn’t Have Sense Of Individuality
[Reply]
I Will BE VERY Saddened By This. They Could Make A Strickter Dress Code… Like No Short Shorts And Tank Tops, And ACTUALLY ENFORCE It. Make Punishments For The People That Don’t Follow It. Like A Detention?
[Reply]
Yes What About The Tech Students. They Will Have Tnhe Hardest Time…
[Reply]
I Personally Don’t Think The Clothing Will Create Seriousness… I Think The Kids Are The Ones That Don’t Care Enough To Try Or To Put Effort. No Kids Should Have To Put Up With A Uniform. That’s Not What They Are In Private School For…
[Reply]
i’m all set wearing uniforms to school. its a public school… no one is going to listen anyways so what’s the point? i’m not wearing uniforms thats stupid.
[Reply]
I WILL NOT WEAR UNIFORMS MY SENIOR YEAR. uniforms takes away every aspect of self expression and creativity.
[Reply]
This is an awful idea , i will swich to north ! I will not wear a uniform i refuse .
[Reply]
I think they should just make a stricter dess code especialy for the girls. some clothes expose way to much and a uniform wouldnt work. kids complain already about everything pshs does and a uniform would be just another way for kids to complain. Plus how would everyone be able to afford a 50 dollar uniform and you would have to get 5 of them. So thats about 250 dollars and you cant bargain shop for something cheaper, its the uniform or nothing. and that “hot pair of jeans” that are so expensive, are usualy at marshals for like 10 dollars if you look around. and arent we supposed to have calculators supplied. instead of taking the money for uniforms lets put it to those school supplies. lets focus on education before what the students wear.
[Reply]
This to me takes away all of our individual rights to self expression through what we wear. I personally express my self through both my personality and my clothes!
[Reply]
I think that having a uniform is both a good and a bad idea. Having a uniform would definatly help with any bullying problems within our school. If the students in our school are wearing uniforms then I think that the teachers should as well since it wouldn’t be fair to us if we had to wear the uniforms and they didn’t. I know that there will be a huge argument over this uniform thing, but in the end it’s not really up to to us. Also, for the people who plan on spilling something on the uniform or not following the rules thats your problem, Who do you think is going to pay for the ruined uniform? Who do you think is going to get in trouble for not wearing the uniform? I’m not saying that I want the uniform, but if it comes to the point where we have to wear them then I will, without the fight.
[Reply]
This is bull noone will go for it! this is a public school and there is a new era of kids going to the high school next year and if i have to wear a uniform i will switch to north
[Reply]
Just because uniforms MIGHT prevent harrasment, doesnt mean that people wont try to find new areas to harras people in. Like their size or their grades. I think uniforms are a horrible idea because, for me, the way i dress is part of me. I express myself through my clothes. I literally have a pair of pants in every color. Some may say this is rediculous, however it is the way I dress. And i dont care what the haters say honestly. I like who i am

the only good thing to come of this is that the “gangster” kids can’t wear their pants below their ankles, but they would most likely not listen to the rules and then they wouldn’t get in trouble because they never do, so all of the other kids would use this as fuel to say “if so and so didn’t get in trouble why do we” so then nobody would wear the uniforms and everything would go back to normal except the 3 kids that actually like the uniforms, meaning this would be a massive waste of money and time- anonymous
[Reply]
I think everyone needs to chill out. I go to a private school and have been there for 3 years. This is not a big deal. I sometimes have to wear a shirt and tie, nevermind a polo shirt. Parents- Don’t you want your kids to not look like “slimeballs” and look professional for the community? Do you want your school to have a better image from the town of Plymouth, as well as the state? By implementing uniforms, Plymouth South will just get a better image as a whole. It will appear they care about how their students look more, and how they want to teach students how to be prepared for a bussiness like environment. No one is going to benefit from no uniforms. Everyone will benefit from having uniforms. There is my two cents, reply if you want.
[Reply]
YES. It leaves us more time to get ready in the morning, and no one will be judged because of what they wear.
[Reply]
NO, bad idea. It can help but its about the money, and the flat out right. The only reason who sign off RIGHTs to be in school is because if they make you be there you must be safe. But this has literally NOTHING to do with being SAFE at all, it is just a meaningless violation of our rights that is completly unnessicary
[Reply]
Reading over the comments, there are few that actually have a GOOD reason for having uniforms. Half of them sound sarcastic.
There’s no guarantee this will lower bullying. As others have said, bullies are bullies and will find a way to pick on someone some other way if everyone looks the same.
Then there’s the lowering of creativity in students. Just because we wear clothes the way we want, doesn’t mean we don’t define ourselves through our personality either. So, I disgaree with those who have said that getting a uniform will allow our personalities to shine through.
We’re not a private school, so it’s obvious not many of the students here are rich and are able to afford uniforms for five days. My parents don’t want to buy uniforms. While I’m not in tech, I went through exploratory, and I agree that it would be a pain for them to switch out of uniforms and then switch back. Also, for the person who said that uniforms would make us look “professional” for our community, we’re teenagers at a PUBLIC school. Those who want to be unprofessional and don’t want to go anywhere with there life have there own problems to deal with. I’m an all honors student and if I have somewhere nice to go, then I’ll spiffy up a bit. If I’m going out to school and hanging out with my friends, then I’m going to dress in whatever I want. Should the dress code be enforced? Yeah, probably, before jumping to such conclusions. Looking around, I can name people who need to wear more clothes or need to learn how to use a belt properly, but what about us who go to school, do our [[home]]work, and follow the dress code? Punish others before punishing all of us.
[Reply]
Oh, and for those that said that it would leave you “more time in the morning..” I dress in the proper dress code, make my lunch, get my make up on, and still have a half hour for whatever I want to do. If you’re worried about having more time, wake up earlier.
[Reply]
I’m sorry but last time I checked my children attend public school! I have no desire to go out and spend extra money on uniforms for my children to attend school! I pay for the bus,I pay for sports and now you want me to buy uniforms for them NO WAY!!!!!! I seriously think you are joking yourselves if you believe that even with a uniform kids are not going to try and modify it to suit them.
[Reply]
I don’t understand why they’re giving us uniforms. They spent the last 12 or so school years of our lives telling us “be your own person” or “express yourself in any way possible”. by taking away our freedom to pick out the clothes we want, they’re taking a lot of student’s identities away. by doing that, suicide rates may shoot up. for some kids, their only form of expression is through clothing. like myself. wearing a uniform will be just like taking away my freedom of speech. i’ll be silenced. so many students feel this way. if our parents wanted us to wear uniforms, they would send us to private school. they want us to be our own person- not a replica of everyone around us. student council, hear us out- this is the WORST idea you guys have EVER come up with. its rediculous. wear do you think we are going to get the money for these uniforms? have you seen the living arrangments of some of us? not so good. sure, you can say “well, for people who need it, there will be financial aid”. be prepared to assist more than half the school financailly…
Also, high school is supposed to be full of wonderful memories and new firends. some people meet their firends based on clothing. for expample: “hey, i like your shirt. i listen to that band too!”…”really? whats your favorite song?” ….and so on. thats how i met one of my best friends.
And, I’m very uncomfortable in my own skin. i have a bigger body than a lot of people. thats why i wear some of the things i wear- they give me comfort. polo shirts and jeans/kahkis really highlight my flaws and make me uncomfortable. forcing us to wear that stuff is almost seen as embarresment and tourcher to some of us. myslef included. so poease, hear us out. uniforms or rediculous dress codes like polo shirts is unneciary. clothing is not distracting. maybe to the older generation, but not us kids. we’re used to it. uniforms would b incredibly distracting- as i said above, i wouldnt feel comfortable in it, so i wouldnt be able to focus durring the day. why dont you guys just make restrictions like- no pants below the butt, or no innapropraite saying/images on clothing. thats fair to both sides of this situation.
Thank you for reading my comment. I’m sure i speak for most the kids in plymouth schools when i say these things. NO UNIFORMS. THEY DONT DO ANYTHING FOR THE BENIFIT OF EDUCATION AND LIFE SKILLS.
Sincerely, an angered, frustrated student.
[Reply]
No. Uniforms won’t solve anything and will just make things worse. I can honestly say that since coming to this school, I’ve never encountered a problem with bullying, whether to myself or another person. I know that it happens, but I don’t think it’s anywhere near a point where the school administration has to put a uniform into place. First impressions are vital to judging someone’s character in a negative and positive way. By taking away someone’s clothing, you lose their outward appearance to the world and how they choose to present themselves without a forced uniform. Most students would happily take an enforced dress code over looking all the same.
Bullying won’t stop if there’s a uniform and you can’t stop someone from being a mean person. If it’s not clothes, it’ll be something else. At this point, it’s generally not someone’s clothes being looked down on and I can’t see how forcing everyone to look the same would be beneficial to anyone. Most students at PSHS wouldn’t even adhere to the uniform and instead wear even more inappropriate clothes in a hope to rebel and show the adults that they won’t be forcing into anything. Rebelling is the stereotypical teenage thing to do, however most students would react that way. I know I would, and I’m seen as the angelic all honors student. The students who already have behavioral and authority problems would probably react in a more violent manner and become even more irritable and disruptive in class. I hope the school thinks about their decision before it’s put into action because if not handled, it could backfire on them.

who needs books or paper? lets buy unneccisary uniforms guys!…c’mon now? in this economy? not cool…thats another financail burden my family cant bare. i can barley afford the bus. never mind a uniform. you guys are making dropping out an even bigger option for me..thanks. i’ll be sure to thank the facilty and student counsil for their kind actions when im living on the streets and eating out of soup kitchens. because you guys are certainly contributing. just minor restrictions like, pants must be worn at waste line, or appropraite-only shirts would settle things greatly. thanks again for worrying my family…we appricaite it…not.

this is a reply to a comment which states : “parents- do you want your students to look like slimballs to the rest of the community?”
thats a rediculous comment. if someone judges people on clothing, theyre just cold hearted. which means they need serious help on the social and life skill side of life. uniforms will ruin that.
[Reply]
personally, i think this uniform thing is REDICULOUS… What’s the point? it’s not actually going to stop bullying.. kids can find other things to make fun of people for..and nobody ever gets made fun of for what they wear. clothes really are a way of expressing yourself. kids/parents are still going to have to PAY for the UNIFORMS..
so what are uniforms really going to do? most kids will absolutely hate them.. & theyll just be telling kids that you shouldnt be different. that people the same people will make you ‘fit in’.
usually kids fit in with kids who have the same interests as you, including the kind of clothes you are interested it.
I think uniforms is a horrible idea..
[Reply]
I think uniforms is such a good idea; bullying won’t be as big of a problem, and some kids will feel more comfortable if everyone wears the same thing.
[Reply]
Uniforms is a horrible idea! Plymouth South is a public school and as a student we should be able to express ourselves however we want. Maybe some restrictions wouldn’t be bad but uniforms/dress code is way overboard! Students are still going to bully and other students are going to be extremely upset while wearing this. When students are in a bad mood that also creates more fights. Uniforms is going to far.
[Reply]
I think this is a bad idea with the very few who actually think this is a good idea it could cause an uproar and kids could protest having to wear them or make a petition they could even come up with a convincing polite article or presentation proving why the clothes are a bad idea. Also this would be a complete waste of the schools funds, I would prefer that they spend there money on something more important that the teachers need to better educate there students not some silly expensive clothes.
[Reply]
no thats a terrible idea
[Reply]
Hey kids. Calm yourself. It’s just Patty Fry THINKING about the uniforms. It doesn’t mean that it’s actually gonna happen. And if it does, no one is gonna actually wear them to school anyways. Let us get suspended, we don’t care. The uniform idea isn’t ever gonna happen. EVER.
[Reply]
i feel this is a wicked wicked dumb idea!!!!! your going to cause all high school students that don’t like this to lose there education thanks to you plymouth south will be the new stupid generation because if we can’t effort a $50 uniform i cant learn? are you kidding me? first of all when no one shows up for school because you give them detentions and they don’t come and get suspended your going to have to start laying off teachers because we’ll be at north or just drop out and you won’t need them anymore which will be horrible because its hard enough for people to get jobs in this society as it is so ALL TEACHERS should consider this!!!! No one will wear this one uniform everyday outside of school so we are still going to have to buy the clothes we already do anyway also because most kids will only if they can even efford one will only have one which will cost us more for laundry detergent and just more money as a whole!!!! all in all this is the stupidest idea ever!!!!

First of all, I would like to say that I am not one to get affiliated with debates that are of little importance. But this is “Dress Code” business is going way to far. The whole idea of the “public” school system is that students may be free to express themselves in any way thats deemed appropriate. Individuality is key. And if the school board decides to stifle the creativity of their students, then they decide to go against the basis of human progression. When people learn, they learn diffrenetly. And having to conform to a dress code would be at first a basic comformity, but will most definetly later have a ripple effect. It will stifle our creativity, and personality, there for stifling our learning. Let us learn our own way.

I don’t understand why plymouth south is starting to focus more on clothing than education. I think there are far more important issues than what the kids wear. Most students wouldn’t be happy and grades could drop. Just saying..

The idea is completely moronic.
We already pay for everything, including things that used to be free, such as transportation. Are you honestly saying you are going to supply each student a set of uniforms for each day of the week? We most definitely need more than one. If that is what you’re saying, then its a shame that such a large amount of money is being wasted on such an investment. We have crummy books, the heat is never on to save money, (And I have Raynaud’s Syndrome, so being in this cold school is actually harming my health.) the ceiling leaks, and the food is low quality. Shouldn’t tax money go towards improving these things?
Piloting the uniforms? Who do you expect to actually come into school dressed like that? No one is going to listen. The staff is very lenient with the dress code, and it is never enforced. How about you try doing your job and punishing those kids instead of everyone? Besides, you know that girls will find ways to whore up the uniform. Changing what is on the outside is not going to change the individual. Putting a troubling making kid in a frumpy uniform is not going to make him take school seriously. He is still going to act like an idiot, and probably act up even more.
The school is already an uninspiring environment. I really don’t want to be in such a monotonous and dull place…as if it isn’t like that already.

i think uniforms would be cool even though i will not get a chance to see them if they come into action at psouth. But mornings would mean less effort for girls because you stress about your next outfit or what not. And also it stops girls from wearing leggings as pants or short mini skirts or belly tops, so we can have some classiness back in the school!

dress code wont stop bullying. just make people mad, and disapoint bullied people because they think they’ll no longer be bullied. really… nothing will change additude-wise. it will just be making the place less and less free. this would really help nothing. the only day anybody has dressed badly, like they wanna sell themselves, or anything like that, was the girls’ powder puff uniforms. im not sure… but i think the coaches or sumbody assigned those. they all looked about the same… so… i imagine it was chosen by coaches. besides that, nobody’s been dressing stupidly. tripp pants would probably be against the dress code… but unless you don’t wear a belt or something… they really wont fall down too much. they are the complete opposite of revealing. ripped jeans arent very revealing if ripped at the knees, but i can understand it when they’re ripped around the butt area. but around the knees makes them more comfy. writing on shirts is only a distraction for about 10 seconds. most people dont even care. a dress code is not at all neccisary in any way.
[Reply]
this is a pretty good joke
[Reply]
i think their should not be a dress code, and their should never be one.
[Reply]
this is horrible. i came to plymouth south to escape the private schools. i can honestly tell you from a first hand expirience that uniform will make things worse. polo shirts arn’t for everyone, and people who wern’t bullied for thier previous clothing will get bullied for how they look in their uniform. you will be putting most everyone in an uncomfortable possision, because they will not be used to uniforms and constantly worry how they ook in it. if you allow them to wear their own clothing, they will be very comfortable and focus more- thats what happend to me. please patty connors, if you loved your students, you wouldnt do this to them.
[Reply]
I KNOW FIRST HAND- SENIORS ARE HACKING THIS WEBSITE SOME HOW AND VOTING YES MORE THAN ONCE. THEY WANT US TO SUFFER. PLEASE HELP STOP THE SENIORS AND VOTE NO!
[Reply]
I think that it’s a really stupid idea. There are so few poeple who want them and everyone else hates the idea. If we get uniforms people are going to do what every they can NOT to wear them and people might even find ways to go to other schools. Like i said bad idea it’s just going to make people miserable.

I want to know just how many people REALLY believe that uniforms is a good idea. People aren’t taking this seriously [[and, yes, just because Mrs. Fry is "just thinking about it," doesn't mean we shouldn't take it seriously]] and are pressing yes as a joke [[such as those hilarious seniors, and some others]] when I know they wouldn’t want to wear a uniform. Isn’t it funny how the comments are practically all negative [[most of the positive are sarcastic-sounding]] and the poll results are positive? Obviously something isn’t matching up.
[Reply]
If people think this will stop bullying, I highly doubt it. Like some other people have said, they’ll find new ways. Also, this is a public school, who can barely afford good books, leaking, and lots of other problems. How can we afford these? They should just inforce the rules they already have, for the handful who dont follow the rules, and not punish everyone while the majority follows the rules. Im completley and utterly against the idea, and so are everyone of my friends. Whatever happened to individuality?
[Reply]
I do not think this is a good idea at all . Public school not private . Also these things are ugly and i honestly dont think anyone would listen . Baaad ideaaa
[Reply]
im seriously if we have to get uniforms im switchin schools
[Reply]
It’s a senior prank…we’re all idiots.
[Reply]
this idea is horrible, i will refuse to wear them.
[Reply]
If there is a problem with the way the students dress you should address them by first sending them home to change then a refferal there after. I dont think that this is a good idea its a public school. You need to crack down of the kids that are not following the dress code.

even if it passes i’m wearing my clothes..

Personally, I am pretty sure that the students and their families would pay for the uniforms not the school. I also think that, it focus more on a strict dress code. With jeans (no holes) and a plain shirt. No logos, or sweatpants…. this is not a senior prank either..i know what the their prank is and they wouldnt do something like fake uniforms
[Reply]
how do you know its a prank..?
[Reply]
okay so i don’t think uniforms are such a bad idea…. but i don’t think they should look like that^ i belive there should just be a stricter enforced dress code like no writing on shirts shirts with collars? or no rips in jeans? something along those line no bear stomaches? no pants below the waste?… but maybe uniforms would be a good thing for plymouth south.
[Reply]
Pretty sure you’ll be sending half of the kids home in the school then.
[Reply]
Love it

I think this is an absolutely horrible idea. If parents were actually worried about the clothing their children were wearing they would send them to silver lake.
It’s not a public school’s responsibility to decide what a child is wearing (Unless of course it is highly offensive, but there are exceptions to every rule). It is their responsibility to teach the children. It’s the job of the parents to decide if what a child is wearing is inappropriate.
I could think of a bunch of better things tax payer’s dollars can go… That leak near the main stairwell where people need to put buckets? I would think that would be priority as opposed to forcing kids to wear things they are uncomfortable with.
And think of how expensive this will be. Literally thousands and thousands of uniforms… I wouldn’t be surprised if 10K was spent on this ridiculous idea.
[Reply]
I do like the idea of a “uniform.” Uniforms do have their pro’s and con’s with it. After Mrs. Fry came into my History class and told us about the uniforms, I would like to pilot it next year as she says she might do. I just want to know if Plymouth South High is doing this uniform thing or all the other schools are going to do this. If its just Plymouth South, then its a ridicoulous idea and if its all Schools then its a good idea, because it wont just be P. South. I think we should have an occasion once in a while where we wear what we want to wear. How will we get the money is the big question to afford these uniforms for like 1500 or so students?
I have heard many students say if we get uniforms, they are switching, but where will they be switched if North High gets the uniforms too??

They think uniforms are going to make kids smarter and all of a sudden we’ll show more respect. But that doesnt happen over night. I came from a school with a dress code and the only reason we were “smarter” or “more respectable” is because the school was really small and the curiculum was on a higher level. Not because the way we dressed. Uniforms are a horrible idea. If anything kids will be more focused on how to get around the uniform/dress code, instead of focusing on schoolwork like the school thinks kids will react.
[Reply]
i don’t like the idea of school uniforms kids will find other ways to harass people. it’s not going to stop. people have to just get over it. also if we do get uniforms(assigned uniforms) many students will just alter it, just taking a step back in stopping harassment.
[Reply]
this is by far the worst idea ive ever heard this is rediculous i would not ever go along with it and none of the student body that i know will do it!!!!!!!!!!! I never thought the school could possibly come up with a worse idea… all the seniours i garantee are every sindle nice comment on here so they dont have to wear them next year no one wants them
[Reply]
This is a public school not a private school. Uniforms belong at private schools. Awful idea!
[Reply]
i dont think uniforms are such a good idea its going to cause a huge thing and most family’s cant afford them anyways…… plus do u really think we wouldn’t try to change it back by styling the uniforms on our own.
[Reply]
This uniform idea, its pretty sick
[Reply]
if we get these uniforms, i will transfer schools
[Reply]
people should be different if somone wants to wear nice clothes they can wear nice clothes if somone want s to look good they can look good in anything they wear. it wont make anyone more equal in the least. people that wanna look goood will.. and people that cant afford it.. thats a joke. it doesnt cost much to get anything for clothes if you shop right and people can take the trashiest most ugly outfit and just make one or two personal minor adjustments mayybe wear a white t-shirt under it or somthing make it you.. people need deversity in school because if they dont have deversity in school your not properly preparing us for the real world where there is such a diversity of people evryone believe that the way people look is what makes them equal which is the point mrs.Fry is sending what will people say when they see the diversity outside?they will b forced to stereotype everyone who doesnt look like them.. you would be doing more harm then good to the kids future and should allow people to become who they want to be naturaly. teachers and administration preech all day about being who you want to be and how its good to be different but yet there still trying to force us all to be the same… thats my arguement and id definatly not wear a uniform nomatter who said i had to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Reply]
i think we should have uniforms becasue we will look so good in them. i hate when guys wear weird clothes but girls shwo to much sometimes so we should have them. it will be the best thing this school has ever done. i hope we get them!
[Reply]
i agree with nick, best idea since sliced bread.
[Reply]
ok. the logical thing to do here is to compare all the pointsmade by others about the subject.
no uniform:
1. uniforms take away form the abilty of the students to express themselves.
2. Uniforms may be expensvie and hard to maintain
3.Uniforms will be distratcing and uncomfortable
4. Harrsment will not stop just beacuse all the cloths are the same
5. with uniforms students can not discover who they are , which is a part of highschool
for uniform:
1. may stop bullying
2. Uniforms create a more serious environment in the classroom
3. uniforms would make things easier for students
personal analysis:
I belive that both arguments have their points, however i must agree with the agaisnt side to uniforms. Uniforms would be a hassle to maintain and the rule would be hard to enforce. Although it may reduce bullying the people who want to be mean will still be mean regadless of the cloths.”Uniforms create a more serious environment in the classroom.(mrs.fry)” i disagree with this. i belive that it would have the opasite effect and distract students who do not want to wear the uniforms.
p.s: no one is 2 wrds……..

worst attempt of a rule ive ever heard. its not right or fair to the students what is [plymouth south trying to prove were a public school and by doing this all it will do is make students mad. i know i wont wear a uniform either way. awful idea
[Reply]
no uniforms are a terrible idea its a public school and unconstitutional and people shouldnt have buy clothes
[Reply]
no
[Reply]
Well, If we were to get these, first of all i wouldn’t wear it. South is a public school not a private and i wear my clothes/style to express myself and who i am. Second, uniforms would not be a good idea because their boring and would make students mad. It’s not a good idea at all and if we were to get these I wouldn’t wear it.

uniforms r such a great ideaaaaa!

[Reply]
Um? Fail?
[Reply]
this is a horrible idea i think we should have the right to express ourselves. having us wear uniforms and not teachers seems very unfair as well. the majority of the people that say yes to the dress code are the seniors who are not gonna be here next year so they dont have to wear them. i like to express myself through the way i dress and making me wear a uniform feels like your taking that right away from so NOOOO!!!!!!! to that
[Reply]
i hope mrs. fry doesnt change peoples way of expressing wat they like to wear

this is sick

Uniforms are very monumental towards our school education. Using uniforms would be very professional, driving students to achieve high grades.
[Reply]
I believe that uniforms would be a great idea for this school. Uniforms will develop pride in the school and possibly drive students to interact with others, my point being seeing students without chains and boots and black hair arent as approachable as someone in a school uniform. Also judgement about childrens clothing will be elmininated and another level of bullying will be removed.
