  1. The Finest Hours

Slated for a January 28th release, The Finest Hours takes place off of our own Cape Cod. This movie centers around a true story, about a small Coast Guard ship braving a terrible blizzard to rescue a damaged oil tanker, and the thirty men trapped aboard. With the setting being in our own home town, The Finest Hours hopes to provide insight into a gripping moment in our town’s history.

 

  1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The long awaited clash between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel finally arrives in theaters March 25th. With rumors that Batman v. Superman has been in production limbo since 2001, there hasn’t been a more perfect time for DC and Warner Bros. to bring these two giants together. And with the much needed debut of Wonder Woman to the big screen, this movie promises a power-packed introduction to the DC Cinematic Universe.

  1. Captain America: Civil War

Batman v. Superman isn’t the only comic book blockbuster to watch out for in 2016. Captain America: Civil War, expected to arrive May 6th, is the next massive installment in the MCU, and as the name suggests, building political pressure against the Avengers pits friends against friends in a massive war between heroes. With all of the history behind the Marvel movies culminating in this battle, Captain America: Civil War is a must see action film.

  1. Snowden

With an expected release date of May 13th, Snowden promises a look into the true story of the biggest information leak in the history of the United States. A biography of Edward Snowden, a former employee of the CIA who leaked thousands of classified documents to the public about the NSA spying scandal, Snowden hopes to provide a dramatic retelling of the most wanted man in America.

 

  1. Finding Dory

A long awaited sequel to the 2003 smash hit, Finding Dory follows up on the beloved fish we all know. Slated for a June 17th release, this Disney/Pixar film has the unforgettable tang fish Dory hoping to reunite with her family. A movie promising laughs, nostalgia, and family fun, Finding Dory is a Disney movie you won’t ever forget.

 

  1. Independance Day: Resurgence

Yet another sequel to a beloved movie opens this year, with Independance Day: Resurgence. With a speculated release date of June 24th, Resurgence is the sequel to 1994’s wildly popular Independence Day. Set twenty years after the first movie, the world is threatened once again, and the Earth will again be tested by an encroaching alien force. With thrills rivalling the original, Resurgence aims to be a worthy successor to the thriller/action genre.

 

  1. Ghostbusters

Expected to arrive July 15th, not much is known about the new Ghostbusters movie. But from looking at promotional art and set images, the female-led cast is expected to deliver just as many laughs as the original cast back in the first installment back in 1984. With more news about this movie on the horizon, Ghostbusters is a movie to watch out for.

 

  1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

A strange new addition the the Harry Potter mythos, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes a new spin on the beloved wizarding world. Taking place seventy years before Harry Potter’s story, Fantastic Beasts focuses on Newt Scamander, author of the textbook of the same name, makes his way through 1920’s New York, searching for mythical monsters. Due Nov 18th, now is a fantastic time to get excited for Fantastic Beasts.

 

  1. Moana

The newest addition to Disney’s lineup of princesses arrived on Nov 23rd. Moana, the daughter of a navigator-chief of a South Pacific tribe, sets out to find a mystical island, with a demi-god in tow. A tale of friendship and adventure, this next Disney installment is one you don’t want to miss.

 

  1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Hot off the heels of the much anticipated Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place between episodes III and IV, and centers around a group of rebel pilots aiming to steal the plans for the Death Star.  Offering a new, in depth look into the Star Wars mythos, Rogue One is slated for a Dec 16th release.
